HASCO Haiti, formally known as the Haitian American Sugar Company (HASCO), was historically one of Haiti’s most significant agro-industrial enterprises, founded on August 5, 1912, with the purpose of producing and commercializing sugar and related agricultural goods both domestically and for export.

For much of the 20th century, HASCO played a central role in Haiti’s industrial landscape. Its operations included agricultural production in the fertile Cul-de-Sac and Léogâne plains, sugar cane refining, and export logistics — even managing rail links to transport raw cane to its processing facilities. HASCO’s activities supported thousands of direct jobs and tens of thousands more in agricultural supply chains.

Despite its historic prominence, the company ceased operations in 1987 due to intense competition from imported sugar — particularly from the Dominican Republic — which undermined local production profitability.
