Lakay is the hottest restaurant in Cap Haitien (northern Haiti). Every day, young and old come to have a drink with friends, have some dinner, or just for dancing through the night. In entertainment and catering, Lakay Restaurant's name is inseparable from Cap-Haïtien.
The boulevard of Cap-Haitien, is an oasis of freshness and cleanliness. Along the seaside under the coconut trees, is located Lakay Restaurant. This business of entertainment, where you eat, dance, joke, chat and meet friends in peace, is one of the most popular in the industry, if not the most popular of the city. When the maiden voyage of the Oasis of The Seas, was on everyone's lips and there was a good outlook heralded in the tourism sector, Lakay Restaurant stood strong.
The fascinating and diverse cuisine are the delight of those domestic and foreign. The owner of this Oasis entertainment, Phillippe (Fito) Zephyr, is not less proud even if he struggles like the devil in holy water to maintain its activities.
Returning to the country in 1998 after a stay abroad, Phillipe (Fito) Zephyr had head full of ideas. Getting into the restaurant business is hard, as there is no shortage of restaurants in Cap-Haitien. But the service offered must be the difference. So he moves his brain. The current location of Lakay Restaurant is located where another restaurant once stood: "The Little Boat," which burned in 1997. Mr. Zephyr made the acquisition. "My wife and I decided to start this company in the same sector; so we started February 13, 1999," he said.
Sometimes discouraged along the eleven years of operation of restaurant sawtooth, envy rises close to the head of Mr. Zéphir still finds enough courage to continue thanks to the dynamism of its employees and his wife who is the manager Lakay. "The socio-economic conditions are dire. Given the crisis, rising electricity costs, lack of public services, lack of basic infrastructure, doing business in Haiti requires tact and hard "to console the man business that is not the end of his sentences.
"Access to credit is difficult, almost prohibitive rates of interest, the room for maneuver companies that aspire to expand their operations are limited," says the owner of Lakay Bar Restaurant, which recognizes, however, that his seniority on the field plays both in his favor.
Fito Zephyr is more optimistic after the historic maiden voyage of the world's largest cruise ship, Oasis of the Seas in Haitian waters Labadie. There has hope. Cap Dajabon road is in perfect condition. "Given the proximity of the ruins of the Sans-Souci Palace, the Citadelle Henry, Labadie, the rich historical and cultural heritage of Cap-Haitien with the Dominican particularly that of Puerto Plata tourist cities, the North has much to offer tourists area "are all factors that light at the end tunnel contractor Capois.
"I suffer from my soul watching most of my beloved city. Cap-Haïtien deserves to be treated differently, "says Zephyr, who believes that with will and means, the appearance of the city of Cap-Haitien change gradually.
Seasonal business, that is to say, July, August and part of September and December being very short periods and during the low season, the company has difficulty maintaining balance. Businessman still nostalgic for the previous five years when things were better.
Fito Zephyr promises to do its work professionally while inviting all stakeholders of national life to do so. In this regard, he said, the state must become more involved in the management of Cape Town victim of rural exodus. We do our best, he has concluded that Lakay Restaurant continues to exist and offer the best service to visitors, customers of all categories that deserve a high quality service.
