🏫 🎵 École de Musique Sainte Trinité
École de Musique Sainte Trinité (EMST), also known as the Holy Trinity Music School, is a longstanding Haitian music education institution dedicated to developing musical talent, artistic discipline and cultural participation among children, young people and adults.
Established in Port-au-Prince in 1956 by Sister Anne-Marie of the Convent of St. Marguerite, the institution is part of the Episcopal Church of Haiti and has developed into one of Haiti's most established community music schools. BLUME Haiti describes EMST as the country's oldest community music school and reports that the institution serves more than 1,500 students across instrumental and vocal areas, supported by a teaching staff of approximately 50 instructors trained by the institution.
The school provides structured musical education spanning individual instruction, music theory, ensembles, orchestral training, vocal programs, summer camps and teacher-development initiatives. Its educational approach combines the foundations of classical music with contemporary teaching methods, while emphasizing artistic development, discipline, creativity and personal growth.
A major distinction of École de Musique Sainte Trinité is its breadth. Rather than functioning solely as a private lesson center, the institution combines individual instruction with ensemble participation, orchestral performance, choral activity, youth development and community-oriented music education. Its programs have also contributed to the development of music initiatives in underserved communities throughout Haiti.
The institution is also closely associated with the Sainte Trinité Philharmonic Orchestra (OPST) and maintains training orchestras, bands and choirs. Its international musical exchange dates back decades, with the Holy Trinity Philharmonic Orchestra, chamber ensembles and boy choir participating in international tours in the United States and Canada.
Following the devastating 2010 earthquake, the school's campus and facilities were completely destroyed. Despite the loss of its facilities, EMST continued its musical activities and summer programs through alternative locations. Its resilience and continued educational mission have become an important part of its institutional history.
Today, École de Musique Sainte Trinité positions itself toward becoming a leading center of musical excellence in Haiti and the wider region, with a long-term vision that includes a high-level conservatory focused on classical and contemporary music, professional musician development and internationally aligned musical education.
