PADF Rebuilding Haiti with Caterpillar

The Pan American Development Foundation has been working in Haiti for 30 years. From the embargo to the earthquake, PADF has worked proudly with the Haitian people to repair, revitalize, and restore lives and livelihoods. Often the only option available, PADF has worked to implement impactful programs and projects that address immediate emergency needs while at the same time strengthening institutional supports for a durable and sustainable future.

PADF currently has the following active projects in Haiti:

PRODEPUR:

The Urban Project for Participatory Development (PRODEPUR) actively works to build the capacity of community organizations, encouraging them to define their own local priorities and assisting them in implementing critical inventions in the areas of health, education, micro-enterprise, and infrastructure. In this respect, PRODEPUR fosters accountability and transparency while building a social capital that alleviates the problems of violence and conflict that have previously hampered development.

PRODEPUR-HABITAT

In the Port-au-Prince neighborhood of Delmas 32, PRODEPUR-HABITAT works to rebuild homes and restore neighborhoods in the goal of returning people to safe and durable neighborhoods. Working with local and national civil society groups and government officials, PRODEPUR-HABITAT’s improvements in neighborhood infrastructure and access to basic social services allows for Haiti to develop holistically and sustainably.

LEAD

The Leveraging Effective Application of Direct Investments (LEAD) aims to attract investment in Haitian commercial enterprises, particularly those with potential for growth, income generation, and job creation, as well as to increase the development impact of remittances invested in community-level social enterprises.

Haiti/DR Disaster Mitigation Project

The Haiti/DR Disaster Mitigation Project is an innovative crisis and risk prevention intervention that melds high-technology innovation with low-technology solutions to reduce the impact of natural disasters on the communities of South East Haiti and the South East border region between the Dominican Republic and Haiti.

PRODEP

PRODEP Implemented over 900 community-based projects in the 28 poorest communes in Southern Haiti.

Protecting Human Rights (PHR) Program

PHR reached an estimated 3 million people through public awareness campaigns, and directly served over 16,000 beneficiaries, including 3,500 victims of trafficking and organized violence. PHR additionally trained more than 3,000 people on human rights issues, including 350 Government of Haiti officials. Furthermore, 132 partners (118 NGOs and 14 GOH institutions) were supported in the implementation of new practices and strategies to assist victims of human rights violations.

Our Border

PADF's innovative Our Border Program (funded by USAID) worked for 7 years to strengthen social, economic, and political relationships between the Dominican Republic and Haiti.
